Legendary WhitetailsIowa Phantom 2nd Year Replica Nt286 2/8 Non-Typical. For many years, this deer was known to exist by the sheds he left behind in southern Iowa. Hunted vigorously by the hunting legends, Gene and Barry Wenzel, the deer was never captured on scouting camera. Neither was it ever sighted and positively confirmed by either brother. Hence, he earned the name of "The Iowa Phantom". A previous year’s matched set of sheds from the deer have also been recovered, having the same large drop tine configuration. This set had the left drop tine broken off and has been repaired to its original size. Rumor has it that this deer was finally harvested just a few miles from where the Wenzel’s had hunted form him, but this is unconfirmed. This monarch is a classic example of how a giant deer can escape detection for a very long time from those who wish to put him on their trophy wall.
